Danish packaging producer responsibility
Denmark's extended producer-responsibility system for packaging began on 1 October 2025. It finances packaging-waste management and supports waste reduction, reuse and recycling. Rules differ by packaging type, including single-use and reusable packaging. This page describes the Danish system.
Who is responsible?
Responsibility depends on the legal role of the business placing packaging on the Danish market, which may be an importer rather than the physical manufacturer. Nordic Safety meets relevant duties where it is legally the producer, including applicable imports and own-specification products. A customer's logo does not by itself determine responsibility for private-label orders.
Private labels and imports
From 12 August 2026, the rules for own-brand packaging require attention to who commissions manufacture and controls design or specifications; a logo alone is not decisive. Responsibility for larger custom orders should be clarified in the agreement according to legal roles. Importing from outside the EU and first placing packaging on the Danish market may create producer obligations.
Registration, reporting and documentation
Depending on the role and packaging type, duties may include registration, reporting quantities, participation in a collective scheme, fees, documentation and internal controls. Nordic Safety registers and handles relevant packaging quantities where responsible.
Costs
Costs depend on packaging material, weight, type, collection and scheme administration. They may be included in prices or shown in quotations, confirmations and invoices. Charges may change with legal requirements, authority or scheme rates and documented costs. Mandatory charges for consumers are included in the total price.
Packaging requirements
Requirements can concern recyclability, substances, documentation, marking and reuse. From 12 August 2026, certain packaging must carry traceable manufacturer or importer identification. We follow relevant Danish and EU requirements and information from authorities, Dansk Producentansvar and applicable collective schemes. Contact us about a specific order or product.
