Work gloves: choose sizes for the team of employees

Order work gloves according to the employees' tested sizes before choosing a complete package. An equal mix of sizes only fits if the need is also evenly distributed. Otherwise, there may be unused pairs in the closet, while the size most people use is missing.

Here you get a method to convert fit into a size-distributed order. The guide is about purchasing for a team; the protection requirements for the work task must be clarified first.

Try out the model you want to order

Start with the exact model of the glove and the manufacturer's size guide. Hand measurements are a starting point for choosing trial pairs. Do not automatically transfer an employee's size from another model to the new one.

HSE recommends that gloves fit the user and that employees are involved in the selection. Gloves that are too tight can tire the hands; gloves that are too large can form folds that interfere with work. Therefore, test relevant sizes on both hands with the movements and objects required by the task.

  • Can the employee open and close the hand without bothersome tightening?
  • Do the fingers fit so that small objects and tools can be handled without excess material in the way?
  • Does the glove stay in place during the normal movements?

Testing fit does not document protection against cuts or chemicals. Use the specific model's documentation and our explanation of the EN 388 markingwhen the protection level needs to be clarified.

Make one size list per model and task

Register employee or internal employee number, work task, model, selected size, test date and any problems. Then add up the number of users in each size. An employee may have different choices for different tasks.

If none of the tested sizes work, the model choice must be reconsidered. Don't let a package offer's size range determine what the employee should be able to fit.

Example: divide 100 pairs into four sizes

Illustrative example: A company has already determined a purchase of 100 pairs for 20 employees. Everyone uses the same suitable model, and we assume the same consumption per employee alone for the calculation:

  • Size 8: 3 employees → 15 pairs.
  • Size 9: 9 employees → 45 pairs.
  • Size 10: 6 employees → 30 pairs.
  • Size 11: 2 employees → 10 pairs.

The calculation is 100 × number of employees in the size ÷ 20. The distribution gives a total of 100 pairs. An equal mix with 25 pairs of each size would give 20 pairs less in size 9 than the example needs.

The numbers are not a customer case or a recommendation of five pairs per. employee. In case of different consumption, the order must be distributed according to the registered need per size. The example does not determine the lifespan, change interval or reorder point.

Check the size distribution in the specific package

Nordic Safety's Premium Sandy Flex is also available as pack of 100 or 200 pairs. The package's product description indicates sizes 8–11 and a Mix variant, which is basically distributed equally. The product also refers to the possibility of putting together the distribution yourself.

Check the selected distribution in the order, and save the number of pairs per size together with the model. For other packages, any requirements for whole packages or parcels must be checked for each size.

See work gloves and current models. If you have a size list ready, but are in doubt about the packing, you can contact Nordic Safety with model, sizes and desired number of pairs.
